dofu fa (soybean jelly)
ingredients
11 ounces (about 1 lb) soy beans
water for soaking beans
7 cups water
edible terra alba* (about 1 teaspoon)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
syrup -
10 ounces sugar or brown sugar
1 cup water
2 pieces lemon or a little vinegar
directions
Rinse the soybeans until the water runs clear. Put the beans in a pot and add water. (The water should be three times the amount of the soybeans).
Soak the beans until they expand to 2 or 2 1/2 times their original size.
For the syrup: Bring the sugar to a boil. Add the water and lemon or vinegar and set aside. (Note: some Cantonese recipes call for a bit of ginger; you can also add a pinch of white pepper).
Mix 1/2 cup water with the cornstarch and terra alba and set aside.
Drain the beans and discard the soaking water. Add 6 more cups of water. Blend the soy bean and water mixture (if using a small blender you will have to do this step in batches). Use a gauze such as cheesecloth to squeeze out the liquid. Retain the liquid and remove the dregs (sediment) from the processed soybean/water mixture.
Pour the liquid (soybean milk) into a pot. Add 1/2 cup water and cook on low heat until it comes to a boil and is foaming nicely. Remove from the heat and filter out any scum, using the gauze again if necessary. Return to the pot and bring to a boil again, adding the edible terra alba when boiling. Turn off the heat but do not move the pot (never move the soymilk until it has jelled). Cover with a towel for about thirty minutes.
Drain off any scum. Add the syrup and serve. *Edible terra alba is used as a food binder. You can substitute gypsum.
Note: You can add other flavors like chocolate, sesame or peanut, just grind to a powder and cook with the milk or spread on top. Also, a quick and easy way to make dofu fa is simply to add soybean milk (available at Asian markets) to the edible terra alba and any toppings or syrup that you would like. This recipe comes courtesy of John Chen, who runs the Masterwok Recipe Archives site.

my friend emily called me. she wants me to go to her topper ware party that is being hosted by her and the consultant is dominque, is she going to be surprise when she sees me... she gonna kill me more like it. as i havent kept intouch with her... oopsy... my shop-aholic insticts tell me not to go but i will .... and will spend... hee... why is it that some peeps come out of the cracks sometimes out of no where?? the last time i left her a message was on mothers day... wishing her a happy one! but i never heard from her. so, she calls me saying that she was having a gathering with friends and family and if i wanted to come. i said sure but not realizing that i was going to see IPG people that i didnt want to see... man... dumb me... saying yes, but i like emily alot... so why not... stop second guessing myself... stop! ya dumb brunnette!! its on saturday! now, hod do i get out of this, i should call her and tell her i cant make it... fabiola calls me to tell me if i want to see her on saturday. she wants me to meet her brother for ... anyways, thats another story that i may not or should not really talk about it! i havent seen this chickie for atleast 4yrs her child is now 8yrs old and the last time i saw her IZu was 5yrs old. dang does time pass! i'll see what i will do! erica called me i havent heard from her for about 3wks then all of a sudden she calls, saying oh left messages and bla bla... what ever all lies i know cuz i havent seen or heard from her. what ever thats her prob... i guess thats another close relationship that bites the dust!!

had a yummy almond croissant with a nice and hot coffee!! YUM! called G, he sounded sleepy but we spoke a bit. asked him to get the norton. as the 30 day trial was over and no surfing with out protection dang-it! i hope he gets it. i want to get back to the net! i miss all my regular reads! g's with his dayd so that means that day will be spend with him and then he goes off to work at the general at around 6pm. i think g said they will be going for dimsum and then go get a razor for his dad at costco (club price). my toy's been so nice to me i love the pics it takes... i think im inlove with it... i will name it... hmmm need to think of a name now! ooh well!! nice pics sweets.... lunch was great yum! had the left over eggplant seafood and pad thai... yum... with steam rice! microwaved it! the bathroom smells like bleach... i wonder why?? keep looking at the floor but its not wet... wonder where its coming from??? wonder????

woke up to nothing... 8am... took a shower... wrote my thoughts on paper from the night before... crazy chickie... took my time in the shower i think i got out of there with prune hands and feet (1hr later). felt so good... called boo-g he was still in bed but saying that he was out the door, but i didnt hassle him... what for... i was not ready anyways.... so the day.. was good... got ready... boo-g came over talked a bit then headed out... as he was going to spend the day with his dad before going to the general at 4pm. he dropped me off at emily's sister-in-law's house.... in beaconsfields street near st. jacques st... pretty cool place... it was a nice place... dominique was there by herself... so i came in... she was surprised, called me bitch for not keeping in contact but still jokingly i did miss her. she's lost so much weight good for her! im pretty happy for her... still living at the ends of the earth... such a nice lady! i will try to keep in touch with her... oooh need to send the pics that i took, of the day! so nice... saw samantha and met her husband... emily's husband's (nelson) family was all there... the food was great... boogie (mary-lynn) is the younger sister to nelson which i took a liking too right away...she is a really nice girl... we connected i guess due to our age similarities... cool...watched my friend totoro with jarred the 4yr old nephew to emily... he is so cute loved me to take pictures or him and jamie his 3yr old sister... they are so cute! thier mom cooks so good cant remember her name but do remember her cooking heee... emily made all the food it was good. i love philipino food... im so into the asian world. met her sons which i connected with due to the similar interests (manga/anime). i lent him my 5 series i have (scryed, love hina, chobits, hack sign, and raxaphon) which i have all 26 episodes of each. the day was amazing! i love it and yep i did buy 50 dollars of topper ware... ooh well may try to ask boo-G to buy some for his house as he always collects the one of take out! heee.... i also tried something that made me light headed... it fermented rice which dant, tastes like sake and i got told that it cannot be traced with the inhalers that the cops have to test how drunk you are... heee... cannot be caught, what a great way to get drunk! and what a bad way not to get caught! i just took a bit and was tipsy for about 2hrs but dang got this huge headache that needed some advil to relieve the pain in my head... dang... so just took it easy for a bit! had ox tail in peanut sauce, and want the recipe for that and tried a desert which is made with a purple yam, that they say it is similar like taro/yam... pretty cool! i need to learn how to cook that too... so i will probably get the recipe from them when i see emily or she emails it to me... lets see what comes up first! well now its 4 am!!! woke up to the sound of rain. came back from TO sunday night. these are my days:
Saturday (9/13)
woke up! headed out to do some shopping for food. nothing in the covers that i want to eat. was pretty down the past few days. getting into the swing of things once again. clean the house a bit... pass the time at G's house, talking. came home and went to bed.
Sunday (9/14)
went to IKEA spent the whole afternoon there. made G by a new couch, he needs it. but its in back order they will call or mail him the info when they get the couch. went for diner and came home. unpacked my stuff.. got a couple of frames, table mats, new sheets, a wok, and some utensils for the kitchen. had so much fun shopping!
Monday (9/15)
today was a coffee day!!! had 6 of them! needed them... i went to bed quite late and was not very pro-active! in the evening worked on my web page, now using dreamweaver. armando came over had a small tutorial from him. and watched a couple of movies, that jamie kennedy movie and the black knight. pretty funny!
tuesday (9/16)
spend the day helping G clean his apartment, as his father is coming next week and staying for 10 days. His place is in an awful mess! I stayed over at his place as he went for his shift at the general! he came back at around 11 with some food, which i was too tired to eat. the house looked a bit descent but needed much work...
wednesday (9/17)
destination Toronto!!! woke up! had a few arguments with G, he's nuts sometimes! shit we need to get going early as it will take 5-6hrs to get there. but no we dont leave early and he was being slow. all that got on my nerves! so i tried to calmed down and started to do some cleanning once again! he packed. he went to leave the movies, while waiting for enterprise to come and pick us up. but then they called and it would be taking another 35 min which i wasnt about to do that! we took a cab around 11 am. came home and packed and decided we needed some stuff so we headed to place-alexis neon! went to pharmaprix and got some stuff. then ate mcdonald's and then headed to future shop! bought a digi-cam (canon power shot S400 - $699 can). pretty nice!! headed out of town. ended up in TO at 9pm. the resevation was at traveldodge for one night! went to hosu on queen's to eat. we had a walk which was really good. it was a nice night to walk around. headed to the bubble tea 168flavors and then headed back to the hotel. ended up sleeping around 2am.

woke up around 9am. needed to check out by 11am. so took a shower and packed. headed out to pacific mall on steeles. it was fun, did some shopping bought some japanese plates and chopsticks. got a new cable for my puter and got the ingredients to make bubble tea. pretty cool! went to eat and then headed out. stopped at no frills to see if there was any toffee coffee but none to be seen but bought some hand soap and took a picture that said trying to save the environment, 5 cents for a plastic bag. i have never seen that so found it interesting! went to the a shoe outlet and got me a $9 pair which i found to be a bargain. i usually pay 10-14 times that amount! headed off to check in at the holiday inn. got in did some relaxing time. headed out for the evening once again. but this time was take out from hosu's. got some bubble tea. came back and watched some tv. ended up sleeping 1am. not bad!
friday (9/19)
G went for his the training to prepare for tomorrow's exams. it was his second year at being an examiner for 3-4 yrs residents. cool... i went shopping and walked around. came back G came over around 12 for lunch, we walked around to see what we wanted an came upon a restaurant that was serving dimsum so we went in and ate. i had gotten him a few things and showed them to him during lunch as he had to get back for 1.45pm. G came back around 5.30pm from the trianing session. we decided to go for diner to the old spaghetti factory. it was ok. i liked the salad better then the canneloni stuffed with spinach and riccota. G's food was really good!! as we headed off, we got into an argument in the car and spent 1/3hr bitching and bitching! then we headed off to the hotel. watched a bit of tv and went to bed.
saturday (9/20)
got up early headed downstairs for breakdfast (buffet). G had to eat fast as he was off to the exams on university street! i still remain eating my breakefast and headed off upstairs for a nap and a shower. i called ben and went to see him at his job. walked with him around and invited him for a snack. as we walked on dundas and younge "NICKELBACK" was going to be playing in a couple of hours. pretty cool! i talked a bit with ben and went to the eaton center to do some shopping at la senza. got 6 bras & a pair of pijamas to match a bra i have. told ben that i will see him another time and to take care. he reminded me that he had my stuff and decided to get it from him tomorrow at around 8.30am. i left and walked back to the hotel. G was already in the hotel we went to eat down stairs. my food was amazing!!! i love it... i had seafood with pasta in a creamy sauce. it was really good! G like it and decided to eat it with me. it was so much but really good! took some pictures and the waitress was really nice. G's dad came that night. he went to see him, i went to bed.
sunday (9/21)
got up and G went to see his dad and i went downstairs to wait for him. i called joelle to see how she, Geeyen and the girls were. the girls were sick and so joelle was a bit tired from the night before. we talked for a while an let her go when i turn G was coming down the stairs to join me for breakdfast. we had the buffet again and made small talked. to see what we were going to do today. his father had gone with a friend to eat dimsum. so we had the afternoon to ourselves. we went to chinatown and took him to the backstreets which remind me of market places like mexico or cuba. so we headed out and took some pictures. we bought some stuff and had a corn on the cobb which was really good! we met with his dad around 6pm and decided to head back to montreal. stopped off before kingston as G's dad was needing the bathroom. had a coffee and G's dad had a soup and a chicken sandwich. headed out and stopped off about an hour later as G's dad needed to take his heart medication. got into montreal at around 10.30pm. went to leave G's dad first and then headed off to my place. went to bed quite late 2m.

G had to eat fast as he was off to the exams on university street! i still remain eating my breakefast and headed off upstairs for a nap and a shower. i called ben and went to see him at his job. walked with him around and invited him for a snack. as we walked on dundas and younge "NICKELBACK" was going to be playing in a couple of hours. pretty cool! i talked a bit with ben and went to the eaton center to do some shopping at la senza. got 6 bras & a pair of pijamas to match a bra i have. told ben that i will see him another time and to take care. he reminded me that he had my stuff and decided to get it from him tomorrow at around 8.30am. i left and walked back to the hotel. G was already in the hotel we went to eat down stairs. my food was amazing!!! i love it... i had seafood with pasta in a creamy sauce. it was really good! G like it and decided to eat it with me. it was so much but really good! took some pictures and the waitress was really nice. G's dad came that night. he went to see him, i went to bed.
sunday (9/21)
got up and G went to see his dad and i went downstairs to wait for him. i called joelle to see how she, Geeyen and the girls were. the girls were sick and so joelle was a bit tired from the night before. we talked for a while an let her go when i turn G was coming down the stairs to join me for breakdfast. we had the buffet again and made small talked. to see what we were going to do today. his father had gone with a friend to eat dimsum. so we had the afternoon to ourselves. we went to chinatown and took him to the backstreets which remind me of market places like mexico or cuba. so we headed out and took some pictures. we bought some stuff and had a corn on the cobb which was really good! we met with his dad around 6pm and decided to head back to montreal. stopped off before kingston as G's dad was needing the bathroom. had a coffee and G's dad had a soup and a chicken sandwich. headed out and stopped off about an hour later as G's dad needed to take his heart medication. got into montreal at around 10.30pm. went to leave G's dad first and then headed off to my place. went to bed quite late 2m.
monday (9/22)
an ok day! pretty tired from the night before. emily called me and invited me to her first topper ware party! which she's being helped by dominique. i havent seen them in a while... its going to be great! the day went pretty slow... i was pretty tired. in the evening took a nap and watched some tv. the puter didnt attract me but i knew i had to start doing my update to my blog. G caleld me and we talked for a few hours. he's feeling the no sleep! as his father is in town for another 5 days. yikes! oh well... i went to bed 11.30pm (early).
i have so far catched up for the past 10 days! i guess this happens to me all the time. i want to remember all what i have done. lets see what happends today, that will be interesting! laterzzz...

i have been in a spiral of sadness/sorrow path! i havent had the energy or the mind set for this in the past few days. i have shared a bit with a few of the bloggers i read regularly. i send them a reply to their emails they have send me. as i dont say much at times but i did to some.
truthfully, i feel really sad. just have this feeling inside as the days come close to the sadness of 2 yrs ago SEPTEMBER 11, 2001. this will always remain in my mind. i can remember that day as if it was yesterday, which is creepy and achy. i was going to work and for some unusual reason i decided to turn the tv on instead of going to my comp. i thought i leave it on as i got ready. it was such a sunny day and i thought of ditching work, as i never used my sick-days. i remember putting the straightener to my hair as i turn and saw the announcer say and "now we go to the latest...". the devistation on the announcer face. they went white faced... i drop what i was holding and sat at the corner of the bed. my first instinct was calling my mom. as i put the tv volume louder. i started to feel this surge of acid building in my stomach and my wind pipe shrinking letting me only take small breaths (not realizing that i started to cry). i couldnt remember my moms number. and i couldnt move just the images of that were on captivated my attention 100%. i think even though i was far away. i sat there watching and looking and trying to analyze what just occurred, not beleiving that such an atrocity could happen. i spend the whole day there. i was just numb i didnt eat or drink anything for the whole day. i finally remember my moms number and called but no answer, when i heard of the plane that hit the pentagon. i thought of all the people that were hurt or were dead. how their love ones would be feeling, the pain that they were going to feel and the changes in their lives that would impact them for ever. all this was running through my head...
i think that we live in a time were life is fleeting... we need guidance and love. for we only got one life to live. with all this happening i dont know what to do or think at times. i get lost in the sorrow of it all. i dont know if im making sense. but i feel sadness purely that. Ginger has captured some of my sorrow. shouldn't 9-1-1 be an emergency number instead everytime i see it, it reminds me of the saddest day!

a few hrs ago i went to read annika's poems... and have a favorite poem already. just reading it filled me with laughter, tenderness, hopelessness, sadness and inspiration! sheesh! love the poem written on Saturday, April 12, 2003 titled: annika oscura @ 1:47 AM! i will email her asking if i can put part of it onto my scrowling marque... time to change and i found the perfect piece to put. i will not quote until i get an ok from her. go see annika's poems they are pretty good!

Sunday was a lazy hazy day... did some cleaning and watched movies and went for dim sum, freaken busy due to the holiday. every one is out there wanting to go eat out, no one wants to stay home and cook, yeh!!! also went to IKEA. bought new sheets, a bath mat and some stuff for the kitchen... my friend he bought like 6 shelves no joke he has a so much medical magazines, books and other papers that he has collected since he joined all those memberships that doctors join... nutty... anyways! that was my Sunday day!
